Building Web Sites or Blogs to Promote Affiliate Programs

It's not a secret that you can make a lot of money by just setting up a web site and getting free traffic from the search engines. In order for this to work, you have to do some research first.

The first step is to go to godaddy.com and just key in your main keywords into the domain name search bar:

Godaddy will spit out all the available names with the different domain name extensions. While usually the .com extension is considered the most valuable, in this case the domain extension does not matter. For SEO (Search Engine Optimization) purposes the extension is of no importance. What matters is the keyword in the domain name.

If you want to sell a domain name, names with a hyphen are (at least in the U.S) considered less valuable. For our purposes here, that does not matter. Search engines treat domain names with a hyphen exactly the same as names without a hyphen, as long as you don't overdo it. If you domain name has more than two hyphens, it might be considered spammy.

Based on my own experience two hyphens in the name are completely fine and you can get nice #1 positions with those names. And don't get fooled by dot-info-nightmares. The .info domain names are extremely cheap and are often used by spammers. But there are enough real web sites that use the .info extension that you don't have to worry about it. I have seen .info domain rank on #1 in extremely competitive markets.

So, you key in your keyword and let Godaddy give you a list of available domain names. If several names are still available you can take it as an indicator, that there is not a lot of competition.

The next test part of research is done with the Google Keyword Tool. This is by the way the only keyword tool that I ever use. All the other keyword tools, like Wordtracker etc.

just cost money and the results are outdated. I prefer fresh data from the horse's mouth directly.

With the Google Keyword Tool you can see exactly how many people are searching for your keyword and Google gives you many related searches that you can use to brain storm new ideas. The competition column is also very interesting, as well as the estimated average CPC column.

After you have done some basic research, you can go ahead and register a name that has the most promising keyword term in its name.

Then you set up a simple blog, using Wordpress or you can use Blogger.com to set up your site. Blogger.com has the advantage of belonging to Google. This can make a difference as far as ranking in Google is concerned.

The disadvantage of Blogger is the somewhat ugly layout. You can circumvent that by using your own style sheet. There is a WSO that shows you how to build a nice web site using blogger within 15 minutes: Build a Professional-Looking Free Website in 15 Minutes Using Blogger.

If you opt for using Blogger.com as a host, you can enjoy two main benefits:

  1. Hosting a web site on Blogger.com is dirt cheap, actually it's free.
  2. Google, like every mom, loves her children. Blogger.com happens to be owned by Google. That means Google will make sure that you'll get some visitors to your site.

It's not that all is positive though. If you don't play by Google's rules, they will yank your site faster than you can blink.

But if you have the main keyword in your domain name, 50% of the SEO work is already achieved.

If you then also use your keywords in you title tags and write a few articles that are related and 100% unique and build a few back links, you should, at least in a niche with little competition, rank fairly high in Google.

As I showed you in part one of this eBook, a site like that can very well bring in a respectable amount of money. In my example it was $26,208 from one small web site per month, at least in theory.

I know one guy that actually makes $8,000 from one web site per day. And he does all this with free traffic. Don't get me wrong: I do not want to persuade you to do SEO here. I am just giving you all the information and showing you that it is possible.

Building a web site with the idea to make $8k per day just with SEO is most likely extremely unreal, but if you do your research properly and have some good ideas, it is definitely possible to generate some additional income with this.
