Dear Pinterest - You Know I Love You, But - LISTS, PLEASE!

No big news – I’m a Pinterest nut. Why? Because it works to bring in traffic and leads AND it is fun. Sometimes too fun. Hours melt away like soft serve on a summer’s day. But I digress (much like I do on Pinterest). Pinterest has one glaring flaw, and we’d like it addressed. When I say “we,” I mean me, Pinstagram Guy, Adam Hutchins, and countless others (we hope you will add your names in the comments).

@Pinterest, we need a way to organize followers and filter our feeds! Come join in the discussion http://scalablesocialmedia.com/2014/06/pinterest-list-circles-organize-followers/

Pinterest is all grown up – it works great and soon everyone will be able to use promoted pins. We love you enough to give you our MONEY, and that is saying something! But there’s this ONE thing!

No, it’s not the comment system, although, it would be nice if we could comment without opening the pin. It’s not the way tagging doesn’t always work, although that can be annoying, too. It’s not even the way I wish I could “like” a comment. It’s something much more fundamental and limiting.

Pinterest – We Need A Way to Organize Those We Follow

You know how you can make circles in Google+ and lists in Twitter and on Facebook? Well, you can’t do that on Pinterest. Which means that from my personal profile, if I want to follow someone who pins recipes or travel AND I want to pin someone who shares great marketing content, I’m going to see their pins all jumbled up in my newsfeed.

If I want to follow my clients’ fiercest competitors, but don’t necessarily want to repin their stuff, I see those in there (yes, sometimes I wonder, “how did tht get there?!”) so I can see what they’re doing.

If I want to do ongoing research on brands that are utilizing Pinterest well, but I don’t necessarily want to see their pins in my feed – too bad. I either follow and endure, or just save a link to their profile in a secret board somewhere.

If, for a client, I want to follow a board that contains ten thousand recipes, suddenly their feed is overrun with nothing but recipes for scrolls and scrolls and scrolls.

So, what we’d like is a way to categorize the pinners and the boards we follow into our own groups. It makes for better content curation, it makes for better personal/business separation, and it just makes sense. I believe it would also lead to Pinterest becoming a bit more social.

You can call them circles, lists, interest lists, pin circles, pin balls, pin-whatever – and we’ll be happy. Promise.

Anybody With Me?
