Fan Page Friday - What is it and How you can Benefit

What is Facebook Fan Page Friday?

Facebook Fan Page Friday - what is it?

Put simply, it’s a way for people to share a link to their business page (or another page that they recommend) with many people who may be interested in “liking” their page. It also helps people find other businesses they might want to follow.

How does Facebook Fan Page Friday Work?

A business page with a good fan base posts on Friday morning, inviting others to share a link to their business Facebook Page as themselves (not from their business account).

The long string of comments below provide a way for people to share their Facebook Page and see what others are posting. Then you can check them out and like the ones that interest you.

Are Their Rules for Facebook Fan Page Fridays?

The rules are set by the host page, but generally are as follows:

  • Post from your personal profile, not your business. This allows people to see the person behind the business and can lead to a deeper connection.
  • Write a little about what you do and what can be expected from your page updates. Entice others to check you out!
  • Post only once.

Ways to Increase the Number and Quality of Likes You Get

  • Make sure your Facebook page is completely set up (and following Facebook’s rules) and that you are posting regularly.

  • Follow the Facebook Friday rules.
  • Visit the pages you decide to like and leave a message for the page, let them know how you found them, why you liked them, and leave a link to your own page. Outright asking for a link in return is considered bad manners.
  • When leaving your link, always tell people why they should like your page instead of just posting a link. Tempt them to at least come check you out!
  • After you like a page, like and/or comment on an update of theirs. Don’t go overboard, though, you’ll look a bit desperate!

How Do I Host a Facebook Friday Party?

Anyone can do it. Just post an eye-catching photo and state your rules. You might want to have some participants lined up in advance, however. There’s nothing more discouraging than planning a great party and having no one show up! It’s best to first attend several and make some connections. Perhaps some of your new connections will help promote your event!

Are they worth your time? What’s the impact on Insights?

No doubt, to do them right, you’re going to need to set aside about an hour to do this right. Who has that kind of time on a Friday morning? Well, I’m here to tell you that the returns can be huge. Not only have my three weeks of participation yielded 30, 33 and 36 new “likes” respectively, I have also seen “People talking about this” go way up. This means I’m not getting all likes by people just hoping for a like in return.

My reach seems to have gone down a bit, but virality is up. The best part is, I’ve had more people actually commenting on updates. Not just a “great post!” update either, but a real conversation! There are some people I’ve connected with that I can see could become lasting resources for content, ideas, and who knows what else!

What if I’m not in the social media or marketing realm?

OK, so it’s true – many of the people taking part are in marketing. I like more of them than any other type of page, but that’s because that is the content I am interested in!

So, if you are a weight-loss coach or a real estate agent, please join in! You may not get a huge number of new likes, but you will get some, and you may find pages and people you want to connect with who can help you promote your own business more effectively by their helpful updates and interactions.

Get the Right Mind Set

Don’t go looking for likes. “Zombie” fans will not do a thing for you and may even hurt your EdgeRank. Go to your Facebook Fan Page Friday events looking for quality connections. Over time, your numbers will increase – for the right reasons!
