To make your research easier, install the Google Toolbar and search the web from any website, without returning to Google's homepage to start another search. The Google Toolbar is free of charge, takes only a few seconds to install on your computer, and is available in a variety of languages, including 'Elmer Fudd' and 'Pig Latin'. Once installed, the Google Toolbar appears in your Internet Explorer browser window, like this:

Pay-Per-Click Search Engine Competition Research - In addition to Google, I also research the competition at some of the major pay-per-click search engines.
Pay-per-click is a type of search marketing where advertisers pay a set amount every time their ad is clicked by a prospect. Some search engines, such as Overture, FindWhat and 7Search specialize in this type of advertising medium.
What you want to do is find out how much the competition is paying to advertise some of the keywords in the list you built.
To find out how much an advertiser is paying for the word 'dating service', visit http://Overture.com, and enter the term 'dating service' in the search box.
On the resulting page, click on 'View Advertisers' Max Bids' located in the upper right hand corner of the page, which will open a new window. Enter the security code presented and you'll see something like this:
