Yahoo Japan acquires ecommerce portals of Venture Republic

Yahoo’s CEO Marissa Mayer after getting her hands over 21 startups, has now added another one to her list. This time Japan based, Venture Republic Inc., through its Japan business arm, ‘Yahoo Japan’, as reported by Sd Japan. The news came in just after the acquisition of Rockmelt, a social web browser by Yahoo Inc. Financial details of the deal were still undisclosed.
Venture Republic was founded in 2011 by Japanese businessman Kei Shibata. It is a provider of price comparison sites and commerce oriented portals such as Travel.jp, Hotel.jp, and Coneco.net. The startup aims to help make ideal buying decisions and provide a better user experience to its e-commerce customers with this deal.
The Venture Republic will be splitting its properties into two groups viz. Osenikku which will handle Coneco.net and remaining Venture Republic which will handle Travel.jp and Hotel.jp. Yahoo Japan will be acquiring the Venture Republic part through this deal.
Earlier, Venture Republic has also acquired two companies, viz. Dreampass, an on-demand cinema service in Q1 this year and Community Factory, the developer behind smartphone photo app DECOPIC for $12.8 million in 2012. Also, the venture capital arm of the company has made investments in Indonesia based Telunjuk , a price based comparison site and Flocations, Singapore’s travel metasearch service.
