HotBot isn't the only Web site that lets you search multiple search engines. It isn't even the best at doing this. That's because the top meta-search engines not only let you search multiple sites with a single query, but they also combine the results onto a single search results page. (HotBot doesn't.)

If you're interested in checking out some meta-search sites, take a look at Table 10-1, which lists the major meta-searchers, along with what sites they search. All of these sites consolidate their results into a single list and eliminate duplicate listings from the different search engines.

And then there's Excite. As you learned in Chapter 4, Excite searches 11 different search sites (About.com, AllTheWeb, Ask Jeeves, FindWhat, Google, Inktomi, LookSmart, the Open Directory, Overture, Search Hippo, and Sprinks), and it combines the results into a single search list. This makes Excite one of the best of the meta-search sites—even though it's technically a portal!
