A Look At The European Performance Marketing Networks

The EU

Network

Revival

A Foreign Film — Exciting Drama!

All the economic indicators suggest that the European online market is about to supernova with stars. Online sales are up, online ad spending is way up, and Internet use is general is becoming increasingly popular with the audience across the Atlantic.

Several large U.S. performance marketing networks have seen the handwriting on the wall and opened operations in one or more EU countries. But the native European networks have hardly been idle themselves.

Through aggressive, expanded programs they're reaching out to both affiliates and advertisers (or should we say Publishers and Merchants, or Teilnehmer and Anbieter, or Affilié et Annonceur. Sorry, none of us here understands Swedish.)

It's no exaggeration to say that 2006 is going to be the year the EU (European Union) becomes the EAU (European Actors, er... Affiliates Union)! Maybe a slight exaggeration, but hey, we're marketers.

The Cast of Characters - Attractive and Talented!

We've prepared a list of some of the celebrities, the larger and more well-known networks, with a couple just plain intriguing ones thrown in as well.

Most offer a variety of payment plans including PPC, PPL, and commission. Most pay after some minimum (usually $50-$100 equivalent), generally via bank transfer using BACS (or other electronic funds transfer programs) or via ordinary cheque.

Many will accept affiliates from any country and provide lots of help answering questions about payment in different currencies, local government policies, and all the other unavoidable challenges of doing business across 25 or more countries.

EU Networks have recovered from the dip of the early 2000s.

With Internet use at an all-time high, and spending up, affiliates are positioned to increase sales substantially in 2006.

Networks can help U.S. or European affiliate marketers achieve their revenue goals.

TradeDoubler

www.tradedoubler.com

Operates with 240 employees in 16 European countries including the UK, Germany, France, and Spain as well as Sweden where it was founded in 1999. (Headquarters are in Stockholm, but the English on the site is near flawless.)

The company runs affiliate programs for over 900 clients across Europe including Reebok, Hertz, Dell, eBay, Kelkoo (a large Amazon-like firm popular in the UK), AirFrance, Apple, and others such as Mercedes-Benz and Alfa Romeo. (Significant, since fewer auto related companies have caught on to the value of Internet marketing.)

They offer different revenue plans including Pay-Per-Click (PPC), pay for-signup (PPL or pay-per-lead), and commission. (Commissions run as high as 10%, but most are around 2-3%.) UK affiliates need £30 (~$53USD = €44) for payout, which is sent via bank transfer.

Signup is free and there are a number of useful, well-laid out reports to help the affiliate track sales, conversion, and even traffic errors.

The buzz on the forums is that the company is ethical and responsive and respects its business partners on both sides of the equation.
